First Prize winner of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, François Chaplin won the Mozart and Robert Casadesus Prizes at the Cleveland International Competition in 1989.

A much sought-after pianist, his recordings have received unanimous critical acclaim in France (Diapason d’Or, ffff de Télérama) and abroad (BBC Magazine/London Award). In March 2010, François Chaplin celebrated the bicentenary of the Polish composer’s birth with a double CD of Chopin’s Nocturnes (Zig-Zag Territoires/Harmonia Mundi), awarded a ffff by Télérama and the title “Chopin 2010 en France”.

In March 2015, his recording of Schubert’s complete Impromptus was a great success in France and abroad (awarded a ffff by Télérama, in Germany, etc.) In February 2017, he recorded Mozart’s famous concertos no. 23 and no. 24 with the Victor Hugo Franche Comté orchestra.

“His style is song, the beauty of a sound carried by harmonies that he melts as if he were sliding his hands over the chords (…) In search of that poetry that makes the unalterable charm of many of yesterday’s Chopinians, such as Cortot, Friedman, Kempff, Novaes and Magaloff, for example, Chaplin succeeds in being sensitive and quivering, lyrical and carried away without preciosity, without nervousness, without brutality.”
Alain Lompech, Diapason – September 2007
