Born in Vietnam, Eric Maria Couturier is a cellist of international renown. Solo cellist with the Ensemble Intercontemporain since 2002, he earned his highest distinctions at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP).

A polymorphous virtuoso, Éric-Maria Couturier performs regularly on the major international stages, as a soloist, in chamber music with the Talweg trio, with other artists such as Mauricio Pollini, Martha Argerich and Juliana Steinbach, and with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, which he joined in 2002. He shares the jazz stage with David Linx, Laika Fatien and Sébastien Lanson, and electronics with Michele Rabbia and Nicolas Crosse. He also performs with dancers such as Richard Siegal and Alexia Barré, and has premiered works by Roberto Negro and Bertrand Chavarria.

Éric-Maria Couturier has worked with the greatest: Boulez, Sawallisch, Georg Solti, Giulini, Kurtag, Eötvös, Mälkki, Nott, Pintscher, Rundel, Deroyer. As a soloist, he can be heard in cello concertos by Haydn, Dvořák, Eötvös, Fujikura, Kurtág, Merlin, Pfitzner, Saraariaho and Robin, whose Quarks concerto he dedicated.

Professor at the Lyon and Paris conservatories, he is regularly invited to give master classes in France, Sweden, Russia, Korea, Japan and China. He founded Les Ateliers du violoncelle with Vincent Courtois and Noémie Boutin.
